Career Information - e-Business

The Internet has revolutionized the way the world does business. You can balance your checking account, pay your taxes, and even plan a vacation all from the comfort of your home PC. And thanks to online auction sites like EBay, you can purchase just about any item under the sun; antique lamps, grand pianos, yachts, and time shares.

How E-business works

Essentially, e-business (short for electronic business) allows transactions to take place entirely online. Shipping and delivery of goods still require face-to-face contact, but the actual shopping, research, and purchasing only require an Internet connection. Usually, there is a third party like Verisign or Authorize.net that allows for safe and secure transactions between vendors (who might be in Tokyo) and buyers (who might be in Boston).

Opportunities in e-business

When many people hear the word "e-business," they think of the Bubble Burst from the 1990s. However, the industry has stabilized considerably in the years since. In fact, because there are fewer start-up costs, expenses, and general overhead, e-business is a popular option for many entrepreneurs; especially those in service industries such as banking, editing, and web design. You can literally start up a business in your home without using a whole lot of capital. All you need is a good business idea, a web designer, and whatever applicable state and federal paperwork there is. It's truly that easy.

The ever expanding Internet

The Internet is expanding at such a fantastic rate that the major search engines cannot index new pages quickly enough. 15 years ago, buying was an extremely time-consuming process. Now, you can furnish your whole house in hours. If you have a good business idea, now is the time to jump into the fray. Who knows how much you can make? The risks are relatively low. The potential rewards are incredible.
